The Sole F85 Folding
Treadmill - a "Best Buy" for Less Than $2000
The Sole F85 folding treadmill is rated a “best buy”
treadmill for under $2000. It’s also the top model in the company’s folding
series and Sole’s number one selling machine.
The Sole F85’s folding design in no way implies a lack of stability, or that
it’s a less expensive or less desirable treadmill to non-folding models. In
fact, we aren’t sure why you’d want to fold it up and put it away since it’s one
of the best looking units we’ve seen. Sure it’s convenient and got a portable
design, but you’ll likely chose to leave it out permanently. The Sole F85 is a
gorgeous thing, and certainly doesn’t remind one of a cheap “folding” machine.
(This treadmill is also available in the non-folding S77 model.)
Workout Programs and Features
The Sole F85 folding treadmill sells for around $1999. Its 10 workout programs
include 6 standard, 2 heart rate, and 2 user defined programs. The tri-color LED
display includes a message board for feedback, as well as tracking speed, time,
distance, calories, pulse, pace and the incline rate.
We especially enjoy the Sole F85’s heart-rate control that
will automatically calculate your recommended target range based on your age.
It’s the kind of thing you expect to see on the expensive club quality
treadmills. And one other feature loved by many who write up Sole treadmill
reviews; it’s got that cool 1/4-mile track graphic that plots distance progress
around the little oval.

Compare Specs/Features of Sole Treadmills Here
The Sole F85 folding treadmill is powered by a large 3.5HP continuous duty DC
motor with ultra high torque. The Sole F85 is designed to accommodate users up
to 400 lbs so a heavy duty motor is needed in order to function at a high level
day after day. More features of this foldable treadmill include a 12 mph max
speed and a 15% max incline, as well as built-in cooling fans, speakers for MP3
players, and grip & wireless heart rate monitor.
Another selling point of the Sole F85 is the roomy 20" x 60" belt on what they
call a Cushion Flex shock-absorbing “Whisper Deck”. And they aren’t kidding -
these machines are quiet!
Head-to-Head Against Smooth
If the features of the Sole F85 sound nearly identical to the Spirit Z300 under
the hood (both Spirit and Sole are owned by the same parent company) - you are
correct. These folding treadmills are very similar machines but the Sole model
comes with better warranties.
The Sole F85 folding treadmill is also often compared to the highly regarded
Smooth 9.17 which has a cushioned orthopedic belt compared to Sole’s traditional
two-ply belt, but head-to-head in almost every category, Sole’s folding
treadmills boast a heavier motor, longer running surface, and larger user weight
capacity. All other competitors have had a healthy respect for Sole treadmills
for over twenty years and they know they are only fading this great market
leader.
