Treadmill Belts – Size, Quality Matters
Treadmill
belts are one of the most important factors
to consider when you are shopping for a new treadmill. Treadmill belts, after all, are key to making your workout
successful. If they aren’t made of high-quality, durable material, your
workout is going no where. If the belt offered on a particular machine is too
small for your stride, your comfort will be sacrificed.
Length and Width of Belt Must Match Your
Stride
When looking to buy treadmills, consider the belts offered on
different machines. Check the sizes to make sure there is plenty of room to
accommodate you and your pace. A good rule of thumb is to make sure the
treadmill you’re buying offers at least 17 inches in width on the belt. Also
check the length in comparison to your stride.
Different Models - Differently Sized Belts
As you shop around, you’ll find belts vary in size
slightly from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer.
Smooth’s 5.0 treadmill, for example, comes with an 18-by-52 inch belt, while the company’s 9.15 HR
models offer more roomy 20-by-54 inch belts.

Consider the Warranty on the Belt
In addition to size, make sure the treadmill belts on machines
you are considering for purchase come with a decent warranty. Most
Nordictrack
models come with a 2-year warranty on the belts and other treadmill parts, while other
manufacturers provide a longer length of coverage.
Belt Lubrication
Care of belts is also an important consideration
after a treadmill has been selected and brought home. It’s important to make
sure the belt is properly lubed to help it withstand the test of time and
continuous workouts. A good standard to follow is checking the belt's lube status about
once every 30 days or 30 hours of use. If you lift the belt up and it feels
lubricated, there’s nothing to worry about yet. If it doesn’t, apply the
lubrication recommended by the treadmill manufacturer according to instructions.
Where to Find Replacement Belts
If the time has come to look for a replacement belt, don’t
fret. Manufacturers offer replacement treadmill belts and other
treadmill parts for sale as do other
companies. Check with your brand name manufacturer first, but remember sometimes
after market belts can be found for discounts that will fit and work well with
your machine. You can shop around for these through online sites or in retail
outlets where machines are sold.
