Treadmill Buying Guide Highlights Features
This
simplified treadmill buying guide will come in handy when you are ready to buy a treadmill. Perhaps you’ve been using
one of the treadmills at the health center. For the sake of convenience,
you’ve decided it is time to get one of your own. You’ve printed out reams
of information listed on your favorite search engine. The
question quickly becomes one of trying to decipher the information that the
buying guide is giving to you.
Here are a few tips for comparing the machines gleaned from
home treadmill reviews:
- Quality level: Your treadmill buying guide
should give you some indication of the quality level of the machines you are
comparing. For the home user, treadmills come in about three different
quality levels. These are entry, medium and best. There are also commercial
or hospital grade machines, but these are generally beyond the range that
most home users will need.
- Frame construction: The buying guide
should give you some indication of the frame construction. Is it aluminum or
steel? Is it bolted or welded? The treadmill's frame must be solid and feel stable when
you are using the machine. You do not want the feeling that you are going to
fall off or that the machine is listing to one side or the other when you
are walking or jogging on it.
- Deck and belt size: Your buying
guide should specify the treadmill's deck size. Space may be a consideration in your
home, but deck size is important. The deck and belt should be large enough
that you feel comfortable you will be able to stay on the belt while it is
moving. People with poor balance need wider decks. If you are going to jog
or run, you will need a longer deck than someone using a treadmill only for
walking.
- Motor size: The treadmill buying guide should give
you certain information about the motor. You need the horsepower rating. In
addition to the horsepower rating, you also want to know if that is the
rating for peak load or under continuous load. You are looking for a
horsepower rating of at least two and preferably higher under continuous
load.
- Electronic features: Every guide
will give you a list of the electronic features for each treadmill in the
comparison. These include such things as the speed, elapsed time, calories
burned, distance walked or run, and heart rate. You will need to decide
which of these features are important to you.
Treadmill buying guide information is readily available
through your favorite search engine. You can also find them in your favorite
library or bookstore. Health and fitness magazines will periodically publish
exercise machine and treadmill buying guide information.
Compare treadmills and their features and
then try out some different models to get the best idea of just which
machine will suit your exercise goals.
